Getting There

Before you get too excited, this is not a post about the Olsen twins' classic Salt Lake olympics road trip movie. But I'll post a picture of that magical moment in cinematic history anyway.

I'm here to boast about the latest accomplishment in my semi-finished basement. We have walls. It will be at least a year before we have cabinets, carpet, or furniture down there... but it's exciting to at least have some rooms. First and foremeost: The Billiard Room.

Yes, that's what I will call it. Eventually this ginormous family room will house a projector, the computer, and I'm envisioning a play kitchen or something in the corner for the wee ones.

Then we have the two bedrooms. The first one is bigger to accomodate a queen bed. Check out the killer double-closet! Finally... somewhere clean to store all our winter gear.

And here's a crappy picture of the other bedroom. This one will have cool built-in shelves for toys and whatnot. (We're thinking this will be the official "play room" for many years to come.)

And last but not least, the bano.

I shudder to think about teenage girls having to share this Barbie Dream House sized bathroom... but oh well. Who knows? Maybe we still won't have it finished by then; bathrooms are freakin' expensive. Talk about a money pit!

Not to be confused with the original Money Pit. Only in this case, I'm serious about using the word "classic". Come on... Tom Hanks singing "banana nana fo fana" while stuck chest-deep in a rug in a hole in the floor? Priceless.

Awww, man! You totally just one-upped me by posting pictures of your basement-in-progress! I guess I'll jump on that, too. This totally looks amazing, btw. I love the way you guys have planned out your space. Having walls is the best accomplishment!

Anything with the Olsens, Tom Hanks, or Shelley Long (Beverly Hills, what a thrill...) is a-ok with me!

You gotta love basements! Your dad used to draw with chalk on the cement floors of our former basements to help visualize wall and closet placements. He loved the whole process from chalk lines to framing, to sheetrock, to paint...you get the idea. I really didn't care till the carpet went down. But how exciting to watch your basement take shape!
