the saddest day of the year

I know that New Year's Day is supposed to be this great time of goal-setting, looking forward to new opportunities, and "auld lang syne" (I don't know what that means), but I am sad today.

It might be because I have to go back to work tomorrow. It might be because I have to go back to work tomorrow and my mouth still hurts from my wisdom teeth extraction. It might be because even with extensive planning, I wasn't able to make it to Brett's mission farewell in Washington on Sunday (horrendous snowstorms aren't something one really foresees being an issue in the Northwest). But I think the biggest reason, is because I finished taking down Christmas today.

That's right. The wreaths, the snowmen, the poinsettias, the nutcrackers, even my glorious tree has been stuffed into its ginormous box in my basement, where I'm forced to shun it for the next eleven months. Who will join me in a moment of silence?

I've never understood what this song means. Are we supposed to forget our friends or remember that we forgot them? Because that doesn't make sense... How can we remember them, if we've forgotten them in the first place?

I know, it is such a bummer! It makes me feel good though to have the house back the way it was. And by the way Websters Dictionary added Ginormous as a real work for 2008! Yay!!!! Will Farell is a genius!

I'm not really a fan of the New Year's Holiday myself. To me it is extremely anticlimactic. You stay up waiting for midnight to come, the countdown begins, everyone shouts "HAPPY NEW YEAR," you look around and everyone has a corny grin pasted on their face, but everything is just the same as it was 10 seconds earlier (except of course that for the next several days there will be a big scribble mark on every paper that you write a date on). So maybe I dislike the holiday for different reasons, but I dislike it all the same.
