Tony Bennett didn't sing anything about the wind
Brad and I met up with my parents in San Fransisco last month for one last hurrah before school started. It was such a fun (kids free!) trip; I feel bad that I'm just getting around to documenting it.
Our first stop was Alcatraz. My hair lost the fight to the Bay wind.

Some pivoting and strategic hand placement made for a more successful photo...

We were pretty upset that we didn't have our own "Vicky" as a tour guide. But the audio tour was still really cool.

A typical cell...

Brad incarcerated in a typical cell...

We let him roam the yard for good behavior.

Here's my question to Bobby Kennedy: if Alcatraz was supposedly so effective, why shut it down?? Some bad guys are just beyond rehabilitation. I say, lock 'em in a damp cell forever.
Anyway - we also went to a Giants game that first day and had a blast! I think Brad and my dad got sick of listening to my mom and me take guesses at what RBI and ERA and all the other baseball acronym terminology stood for... we also rated the players' hotnesses as their photos came up on the jumbo tron and did some top rate people-watching. Funny how I don't remember who won the game :)
BTW, I think Zack Morris did my bangs for this photo. That wind wreaked some HAVOC.

Check out the kayaks in the water behind right field. Dozens of people showed up to catch home run balls; I guess it's a pretty common practice.

The next day we saw the sights around town, starting with Pier 39 (no pictures?) and Ghiradhelli Square, hence the breastfeeding mermaid statue,

Lombard Street,

The Golden Gate Bridge,

Golden Gate Park where we discovered this pretty waterfall,

and Coit Tower. This picture is bad but the views from the top are cool.

Here's Alcatraz from the tower

and Lombard street too.

The next day we headed down the coast to San Jose, where we toured The Winchester Mystery House. Basically, the heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune thought that the ghosts of those killed by her family's guns were were haunting her. She was convinced that constant construction and a kooky floor plan would keep them away. They wouldn't let us take pictures inside, but here's a shot of a random door leading to nowhere. There were also stairs leading to nowhere, a window in the middle of the floor, and doors and cabinets opening to brick walls. Fun stuff! You have to check out the aerial view here.

We finished the trip by visiting Carmel (and then immediately regretted the long drive back to San Fransisco).

It was so fun to go on this trip with my parents. We see them a lot considering the distance between us, but it was nice to have one-on-one time with them. Thanks for coming guys!!
