My happy place

Okay, so this is not a cute - nor a recent - picture. Sorry, Alicia. (The rest of you, lay off, we were roadtrippin'.) I'm posting it because this is my favorite view in the world. It's the Columbia River Gorge just outside of Washougal on Highway 14. Throughout high school, whenever I was sad, frustrated, or just contemplative, I'd go for a drive. I'd usually make a big loop around the Washougal River Road and end up heading east on Highway 14 until I found my happy place. This happy place.

Even now, I usually make Brad take the "long way" to I-84 when we're heading home from my parents', just so I can see this view.

Now, here's my point. Check out the opening shot of the Twilight trailer. (Pause the video at 7 seconds to get the full effect.)

Hello?!?

Pretty cool, right? There are actually a couple other shots of the gorge throughout the trailer... a fact which gets me anxious to see the movie.

At first I was super-excited to see my happy place on the big screen, but the more I watch the trailer, the more I'm feeling a sense of loss... like my happy place has been sold out to "the man". Is this sense of ownership totally unjustified? Probably.

Oh well. I've decided that I might as well jump on the bandwagon and claim some bragging rights.

that is really cool! I don't think that you should be too worried because most people still won't know where that beautiful spot is.

You should totally claim bragging rights because I'm claiming them through you. "Yeah, I visited my friend Michelle and my cousins up there. I've totally seen it in real life. Oh and the prom at Multnomah Falls? Hiked it. I'm awesome." Funny thing...I totally remember driving to that spot. It is gorgeous up there. Maybe we should take a road trip to visit your parents!

Brag baby, brag! As much as I want to move back to be closer to my family, I will hate to leave this beautiful part of our country someday. There are few scenes as breathtaking as the Columbia Gorge and I'm even proud of the one from my front porch! As for Twilight, I have a friend that rented a local theater this Friday night and sold 88 seats to her friends! We may be old but we still know how to have fun.

I LOVE that you posted this. (Even though you are way cuter than me in that picture...you always are.) There are fewer places more beautiful than that spot. I love the Northwest. It's my favorite part of America. And if that's the only reason I go see Twilight (don't worry, it isn't), then so be it!

It's true. Everyone is just goint go assume that it is near Puget Sound or at least SOMEWHERE closer to the "real" Forks near Seattle. And I completely agree with you, that I think I'm mostly excited to see the movie because that is the closest I'm going to get to home any time soon. That preview makes me long for those happy places WAYYY more than I thought it would.

(Okay, and I'm just excited to see the movie, too. Just a little bit.)

2 more days until our midnight movie! Hope you're going to bed early every night. I'm already tired. That's such a beautiful picture- I just love it up there. Look on the bright side, if they're going to sell it out might as well be for Twilight! See you Thursday!
