boring?

So, my mom likes to tease me because I always want "practical" gifts. One year for Christmas as a kid, all I wanted was my own hamper. Seriously. Hey - I'm a middle child and I think I was really attracted to the prospect of not sharing.

As an adult, not much has changed. For Christmas last year, I wanted beef. And for my birthday, I want a vacuum.

But here's the thing... I really don't think I'm boring. I've been having so much fun wandering home stores and checking product reviews online for just the right vacuum. And I'm so excited to have one that sucks. (That's just funny to say.) I have wicked allergies and my carpet seems to trap dust.

Right now, it's down to the Hoover WindTunnel or an Oreck Ultra. They're about the same price if we trade in our old Oreck. Any suggestions? Or am I the only one that gets into this?

p.s. Bagged vs. bagless. I need your advice.

Nothing would make me happier than a vacuum for my birthday. I want the $500 Dyson. Ha. Ha. Mainly because I have a bagless right now and it does NOT suck. It gets the smallest amount of dirt in the chamber and starts spitting it out. I've been very unhappy with it and can't wait for it to bite the dust so I can get a new one. Congrats and Happy Birthday. Maybe I'll come vacuum your living room with your new one just to enjoy a nice vacuum. :)

I too am in the market for a vacuum, and have pretty much decided I want the Oreck ultra. I found myself loving the cool innovative bagless vacuums, but the more I researched the more I decided I want a bagged vacuum. They aren't as pretty and hi tech looking but I think they are more practical. From what I have found, they keep in the dust better and even though you have to replace bags, it's worth it. The oreck ultra is super light too. My mom and sister both own one, and like them. Oh plus if you buy an Oreck, you can go on an interest free payment plan, and pay off the vacuum over the course of a year...hope that helps.

are you the one who nicely put those vacuums in a curved row, and took a picture? If so, you sure have had fun!

Ahh, serious fun! We are into vacuums here at our home, only it's mostly JIM who is researching. He bought himself a MASSiVE shop vac for Christmas and just loves it. The great thing is that HE uses it! We are looking to replace the pInk vacuum I inherited from my Grandma 10 years ago (who knows how long she'd been using it prior...). However, we are looking at central vac's -since our house is plumbed for it. Huh, hope you get your b-day wish and it is all you dreamed it would be. :)

Great research! I love stuff like that. I want to know all about stuff before I buy it. You let us know what you decide. Deron got me a Dyson, but I don't think that it is all that it is cracked up to be. I liked our hoover better. Did you like your old Oreck? Cause if you got a good thing, why change it?

Happy Birthday, Michelle! I absolutely love gadgets!! I once bought a lawnmower (one word?) that basically drove itself. It was way too cool! I say buy whatever turns you on. On a side note, I remember a little girl that only wanted plain blue or plain white t-shirts. Nothing fancy...and heaven forbid ruffled underpants! You're a practical gal and one of the coolest!

First of all, I have no doubt that you were the one to arrange the vacuums so that they could have their picture taken. Second of all, I'd go for a bagless vacuum. I love mine because I can see when to dump the dirt and I think it does a better job than my old bag style vacuum. I'd go for a middle to higher end model and obviously go for a cute color if at all possible.

Chad and I actually got a new vaccum for Christmas. We got a bagless and I really like it because I can see immediately if there is a problem with it, and I love to see all the dirt that it picks up!
