What are you doing on Saturday?
Some of you probably know my big brother, Scott and his wife, Megan. They are seriously two of my favorite people in the world. (I even like their dogs.) They're usually pretty private, self-sufficient people and will probably be embarrassed when they see this post, but oh well :)
For the past several years Megan and Scott have been battling infertility. It seems like more and more of my friends are dealing with issues like this and it sucks. There's no other way to describe it. Megan and Scott would make amazing parents; they're already the best aunt and uncle EVER. It just doesn't seem fair that they are still waiting for their turn to have kids. But I have faith that someday, somehow they'll get their children whom I know are waiting for them too.
It's been a long, hard road. From fertility meds to artificial insemination to in-vitro fertilization to adoption prospects, nothing has worked. Yet. And I won't itemize all the other crap (non-fertility related) that has gone down along the way... mostly because it would take days. Needless to say, these guys are spent. Physically, emotionally, and of course, FINANCIALLY. I've been feeling helpless, not really knowing what to do to help them. But I do know, more than ever, that it's in God's hands. I know that God wants my brother and my sister to be happy. I know He wants to bless them with children. But none of us knows what His timeline is... and (understatement of the century) that's the hard part.
These last couple months have been particularly hard, and as we've come together as family and friends, it boils down to this: we can't guarantee that Megan and Scott will get pregnant, but we can guarantee that they'll be able to pay their medical bills. Megan's friend, Julie Kaye, has spearheaded a benefit for Megan and Scott that will be taking place this Saturday at Mountain View High School in Orem. There will be a boutique and silent auction from 12-7, fantastic entertainment from 7:30-8:30, and an outdoor movie at dusk. Check out the website for some of the incredible stuff up for auction. Of course, all proceeds will go to Megan and Scott Lee's efforts to start a family.
I'll be there all day (hopefully with a happy Kaiya in my arms), so come stop by. I know there will be some great crafts and yummy treats for sale and of course, the auction will be stellar. I'm pretty sure they're screening Forever Strong, too. I'll see you there!!
