The Walkers

Today is a teacher development day (aka: no students), and since grading papers is B.O.R.I.N.G., I started making a list of ridiculously misspelled words I found in my students' handwritten essays. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out what they're trying to say, so I've included an English translation. Keep in mind, these are sophomores! Here are my favorites: " romodel ” = role model “ eterny ” = attorney “ ferindly ” = friendly “ mischeff ” = mischief “ nife ” = knife “ inecinse ” = innocence “ inecint ” = innocent “race’s” = racist “ flasely ” =falsely Geez , who is these kids' teacher? I swear, spell-check has ruined Generation Y.

Sayla Larsen (a la John and Summer) came to visit the other day. I'm pretty sure these girls are destined to be best friends. They were born in the same hospital, in the same room, one day apart! I love Sayla's red hair and big belly... she is so stinkin' cute! Now as for this next photo, you may be wondering: "Why is Kaiya's head cocked all the way back in her bouncy chair? Isn't she supposed to be playing with the toys?" Well... Apparently she's just really into TV. She does this all of the time! I usually have to turn the TV off while I'm feeding her because she gets so distracted. It's kind of like when I try to talk to Brad while he's watching TV...hmm... By the way - my kid is a quarter of a year old today. Weird.

Do people really buy $50 jeans for their babies? $65 boots? $80 rompers? $800 strollers? I'm never feeling guilty for shopping at the Carter's outlet again.

Kaiya has been kind of sick for the past few days. It was my last debate tournament on Saturday (hazaa!), and the poor girl screamed for about five hours straight for Amy. After talking to Amy a couple times, hearing her crying in the background, and crying myself for not being able to be there, Brad left work early to take her to the doctor. Lo and behold... she has some fluid in her ear that's not infected yet, but most likely causing some discomfort, and a sore throat. We've been giving her Tylenol every 4 hours (even though it seems to only last about 31/2). And she's been doing better. Unfortunatly, she isn't eating very well, which means she's up a lot more during the night. Boo. I know it could be a lot worse, but it's still so sad to see her in pain. On a happier note: Laurel made Isabel and Kaiya matching tutus! Kaiya was a good sport tonight and almost smiled for the camera. We'll have to take some dancin' pictures of the cute cousins ASAP.

Kaiya was blessed on Sunday, and it was a great opportunity to show off our pretty girl to the whole family. To those of you who could make it: thanks for coming! Some pictures from lunch at our house... Here's Adam spiking the punch. Clearly we didn't have enough chairs. Sorry guys. These are Brad's grandmas on the left. Scott and Megan Burping the baby = story of my life I tried to take some pictures to show her dress but she was being uncooperative. I'll have to go get some taken before she grows out of it. In like a day. My friend Jess made the dress by combining a few ideas I'd seen in pictures. (She does custom wedding gowns and is amazing!) The dress and bonnet are a peachy-pink satin with an embroidered organza overlay and the coat is satin. It looks like an heirloom and I love it with all of my soul.
